Sweet cucumber belongs to the family of melons and has an ovoid shape. Its smooth thin, normally light in color, is covered with purple stripes. Inside the fruit, the water-rich pulp contains small seeds. It has a sweet and delicate taste between melon, apple and cucumber.
Sweet cucumber is native to South America but is now easily found in Australia, New Zealand and California. The plant doesn’t reach more than 50-60 cm and grows like a tomato, so it needs a support to grow in height.
